Freddie Mae Flegler

Funeral Service for the late Freddie Mae Flegler will be 1:00 PM Friday, Nov. 9, 2012 at Hopewell AME Church in Hemingway. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.

Freddie Mae Flegler, daughter of the late Jay Mack and the late Daisy Smith was born on February 2, 1943 in Georgetown County.  One sister, Dora Young and one brother, Thomas Mack preceded her in death.  She attended and graduated from Choppee High School.

She met and married Nathaniel Flegler in 1963, to this union they were blessed with ten children.

She was a member of Hopewell A.M.E. Church where she sung on the gospel and senior choir.

She took great pride and pleasure in cooking and nurturing her family, even after all of her children had grown up.  There would always be a pot on the stove cooking for whom ever would come by.

She was called “Mama” by many, because she showed love and compassion for everyone she encountered, always taking the time to prepare a meal for someone.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories her husband of 49 years, Nathaniel Flegler, Sr.; her stepmother, Catherine Mack; five daughters, Gwen (Richard) McKnight of Jacksonville, NC, Shekeema (George) Schultz of Fayetteville, NC, Aretha (James) Flegler-Eaddy, Lori Hayward and Shanna Flegler all of Hemingway, SC also, she leaves five sons, Gervis Smith, Marvin (Rochelle) Flegler of Hemingway, SC, Fredrick Flegler of Florence, SC, Ricky (Ruth) Flegler of Columbus GA and Nathaniel (Valencia) Flegler, Jr. of Atlanta, GA; seven sisters, Maggie (Willie) Davis of Georgetown, SC, Mattie (Johnnie) Lowery, Mary Jackson, Geraldine (Crawford) Butler all of Rochester, NY, Rosa (Marion) McKnight of Andrews, SC, Sarah (Harry)Nesmith of Nesmith, SC and Betty Mack of Columbia, SC; six brothers, Howard Smith of Columbia, SC, Raymond Mack, Edward (Jerleen) Mack, Theron (Sabrina) Mack, Nathaniel (Linda) Mack all of Nesmith, SC, Frankie (Lottie) Mack of Columbia, SC; four sisters-in-law, Addie Graham of Hemingway, SC, Gertrude Flegler of Queens, NY, Susie (Arthur) Thompson of Atco, NJ; one brother-in-law, James B. (Gloria) Flegler of Baltimore, MD; one aunt Louvenia Frasier of Andrews, SC; 27 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a very special nephew she took as a son, Mose Flegler; an adopted daughter, Shirley Davis and a special friend, Mable Murphy and many special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
